Read the following prompt:

The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.

“Nervous?”

You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.

“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.

“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”

How do you respond (in character)(250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium.  Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)

Heh. Maybe a little. But I’ve left behind more frightening things than a wagon full of hopeful strangers.

I was born in the Serene Monarchy, out in the Mist Isles, where the waters are calm enough to convince you that ambition is a flaw. My parents were merchants — careful, clever, good at their trade. We lived modestly, never wealthy, never remarkable. They were content with that. I wasn’t.

Before the Monarchy became our quiet refuge, my family lived for generations in the Midlands. Back when the name Aedall still meant something. I wasn’t alive then — not even my grandparents — but every story I heard carried the same message: we were born of legacy, and we fled it. When Aedall fell, my kin traded crowns for coin. They called it survival. I call it surrender.

The Monarchy teaches patience and humility. They say ambition destroys, that peace is our highest calling. But when I read the Treatises of the Dawnweavers, I didn’t see warnings — I saw instruction. How to command, how to influence, how to make the powerful bend without them knowing. Aedall didn’t fall because it reached too high; it fell because too many stopped reaching.

Now I go to the Southern Reach — fertile land, unclaimed, full of opportunity. Here, names can still be forged. I will make mine endure. Not for glory, but for what is owed — to my family, to my blood, to me.

Let others praise moderation. I prefer results. And if I must smile, bow, and play the courteous merchant to claim what I want… then so be it. Politeness hides intent better than steel ever could.

Character Name: Elarion Vanyr

Character Race: Arsa Sidhe

Character Age: 25

Brief Physical Description: Elarion is tall (210 mt)  and graceful, moving with the natural poise of their kind. Their flaming red hair falling on their shoulders most of the time, their golden eyes are sharp and watchful, rarely resting. Their travel-worn attire blends practicality with subtle elegance, reflecting careful attention to appearance. They speak calmly and persuasively, carrying the charm of a merchant polished into something quietly manipulative.

Greetings,

Sorry for disturbing, but I was hoping to know the state of my request.

Thanks for your attention

Sincerely,

Eris

No harm done! Apologies for the wait, I had some delays on my end.

For the reply portion, I have a few notes on revisions and points where I'd like clarification:

  • The Serene Monarchy is the governing body of the Mist Isles, less so a specific place beyond their castle. When Elarion says they were born in the Monarchy, do they mean in the extended royal court or in the Mist Isles under the Monarchy's rule?
  • The Aedall, by and large, vanished completely as a people 50 years ago in lore and have not occupied the Midlands for more than a thousand. The Collapse of the old Empire is a different lore event from the disappearance of the Aedall, as the Aedall's disappearance is what left the Southern Reach uninhabited to begin with. As a result, no one actually knows why the Aedall disappeared--because they were broadly isolationist and xenophobic towards outsiders. I'd ask that the references to them be rewritten in line with their page on the Compendium--one of their defining traits was refusing to stop trying to reclaim the past, not giving up and letting it go!
  • On a scan of the Mist Isles, Pearl Coast, Mistan, and Serene Monarchy pages I can't find any mentions of the Treatise of the Dawnweavers. Is this original lore, and if not, could you let me know what page that's meant to be drawing from?

Next, Arsa Sidhe cannot have scarlet (red) hair! Ginger is almost nonexistent. I'd ask Elarion's hair be changed to one of the other listed colours on the Compendium--alternatively, you're welcome to make Elarion half Arsa-Sidhe and half Fey-Touched if you'd like to keep the scarlet (just note this page on the compendium for required traits, if you opt to go that route! Fey-Touched are required to have solid-colour eyes).

Let me know when you've made the requested changes via a reply to this thread, so I'll be notified and can get back to you quickly.

Hello! Just leaving a message to remind you that your app has been taken and is pending further review in line with the points made above

Greetings,
thank you for your response, I am sorry for my late one.

I was hoping to ask you if there's any possibility that my character dyed her hair. The skin resembles my appearance but i didn't want to change their origins. Otherwise I have prepared a version where their hair are pale gold.

“Nervous?”

I let out a quiet breath that could be a laugh.
“A little. But trust me — I’ve walked away from things far more unsettling than a wagon full of dreamers.”

The woman’s kindness isn’t unwelcome, just… unfamiliar. I straighten slightly, letting the rhythm of the wheels steady my thoughts.

“I was born in the Mist Isles, not among the Serene Monarchy’s courtiers, but under their rule all the same. Life there is calm to the point of suffocation. The Monarchy values stillness — order — the kind that keeps everyone polite, predictable, and harmless. My parents thrived in that environment. They kept a respectable shop near one of the trade routes toward the Pearl Coast, selling the same quiet necessities day after day. They found comfort in that sameness.”

My mouth curves faintly.

“I never did.”

I shift my gaze to the passing plains.
“You know, in the Isles, people speak of the Aedall the way children speak of storms — fascinated, but from a distance. My family used to claim—rarely, and always in half-whispers—that our lineage traced back to folk who once lived near Aedall lands, long before the Isles were home. Whether that’s true or not, who can say? The Aedall shut themselves away so tightly no one ever really knew them. They chased their past like it was oxygen, obsessed with reclaiming what was lost… and then they vanished. No warnings. No graves. Just absence. And their disappearance left the Southern Reach empty for decades.”

I glance back at her, voice quieter.

“That kind of mystery changes a child. It changed me. Not because I think I’m special — but because it proved something. Entire peoples can vanish, and the world won’t even pause. Legacy isn’t given. It’s made. And if you don’t shape your own story, someone else will write you out of it entirely.”

My smile sharpens, but not unkindly.

“The Mist Isles wanted me to accept a life small enough to fit inside tradition. I’d rather die than shrink that much. The Reach is new, uncertain, unclaimed. That means opportunity. Influence. Room to build something that actually lasts. And if, along the way, I collect a few… lasting obligations from those who seek my help, well — every ambition leaves its mark on someone.”

A small shrug.

“And if the path to all that requires courtesy, humility, and playing the part of the well-mannered merchant?”
I let my eyes gleam.
“Then I'll smile as sweetly as they want. Nothing hides intent better.”

Character Name: Elarion Vanyr

Character Race: Arsa Sidhe

Character Age: 25

 Brief Physical Description:

Tall (210 cm), lithe, and poised, Elarion moves with the fluid grace typical of the Arsa-Sidhe. Their hair is now a pale gold, braided loosely for travel, and their golden eyes watch everything with quiet calculation. Their clothing is practical but neatly kept — not fancy, yet curated, hinting at someone who understands the power of presentation. Their voice is calm, persuasive, and measured; they speak like someone used to getting what they want without raising it.

With Blond Hair

About the Treatise of the Dawnweavers, it was an original Lore about the family.

A small circle of their ancestors wrote it: early negotiators, scouts, and intermediaries who operated between isolated cultures. They called themselves the Dawnweavers because they believed true power lay in shaping the “first light” of understanding—
the moment before someone realizes what they think.

The Treatise collected what they learned about: subtle influence, psychology through kindness, negotiation disguised as empathy, leading someone to a conclusion they believe they reached themselves, the power of silence, the danger of clinging too tightly to the past. It was a field manual for survival to make outsiders lower their guard, to turn potential enemies into allies, or to walk away from a negotiation with more than you were offered.

I am sorry if it wasn't clear. I thought that I could explain that though the game but I realise it was probably better to do it here or remove it, as I did.

No worries, thank you for the response.

The Aedall: Well done with the revisions. As of now, I regard everything within the re-write as requiring no further edits for lore compliance.

The Treatise & revised Mist Isles passages: You're welcome to incorporate your own writing for Elarion's family! A Treatise comprised of teachings and traditions passed down from early wayfinders and seafarers is fine, the only reason it wouldn't be is if you wanted to play a character from a noble family or other long cultural heritage and have others recognize it. Submissions can be made past whitelisting for those sorts of things. As you describe it, though, that sort of process isn't usually necessary for non-magic/Fey/Fabled story beats involving a character's family and ancestors. The Mist Isles have a long history across centuries, so the concept should be fine.

Hair: Hair dye on Avalore is a compromise between immersion and fun. Largely, that's to prevent it being used to try to circumvent the limits that each race is given in terms of appearance. Arsa Sidhe hair cannot be naturally red and ginger is very unusual, but it can be white, platinum blonde, or silver. Stains and dyes, if you can find a historical precedent for the colour you want, are generally permissible -- sometimes origins unique to items or aspects of Avalore's lore in particular are also fine. If you'd like to go with a dyed red, I believe you can get a shade close to what Elarion's original submission had by using henna; given Arsa can have hair that's white, a vibrant red is definitely possible (and less jarring than something like a very saturated cyan or yellow, for instance).

At the moment, either a dyed/stained red (with a very light natural colour) or a blonde Elarion are both permissible. If you can let me know which you'd like to use, I can whitelist the application! I'd ask, primarily, that if henna be used that the shade of the hair be darkened just a little and a note be made that it's dyed in any places you describe Elarion's appearance in the future.

Greedings dear Bliinx,

To respond to your question, I would personally prefer for Elarion to have a dyed red hair. I'd use a henne and madder to have a bright and flaming red, as in my original skin. If necessary in game i'll use the beetroot as a substitute. I have no problem to add the fact that their hair are dyed, nor to include it into the role itself while playing.

For the Treatise, I'm glad to hear that my idea can be included in my character's personal lore. Their lineage is not noble, nor is the Treatise made public, as it's filled with secrets and lessons meant for the family only, unless a member decides otherwise, which it happened only once, in my personal lore, to someone long time dead.

That said, I'll resend the whole sheet if necessary with the said changes.

In the meantime, i wish to thank you for your kindness in explaining me where to correct my imprecisions.

'Till next time,

-Eris

I'd still like to see Elarion's red be darkened a shade or so as per my last message, but given everything else is up to par I'll be whitelisting the application.
