In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)
"Why to spread the good news, of course!" The man smiled as he continued his speech to the woman. "You and everyone around you has been blessed by a most appropriate meeting."
He reaches towards her, and with her permission, he squeezes her hands together within his. Though his fingers are gloved, a warmth radiates from them as though he were forged from sunlight itself.
"Ah, I see you are curious. Good, a good start of course. I have seen it all, good waif. Traveled near and far . . . the Reach is just the next stop on a great journey that I have to forge for myself. And for all others who walk on these very roads or traverse this great land."
The man waves his arm from one side of her view to the other. As though arcing across the way to guide her vision forward.
"When I was a boy, my father often told me stories about the elves and their many mysteries . . . their strange language and their customs. Far different, mind you, from our own customs and language but all the same; fascinating. I sat idle and wondered; what could they be like? So, I of course took to my own share of studies. I read up on every culture I could. From the fables of the Korami to the Phoenix and Equinox of unknowable origin. Everything I could know . . . precluded from me."
He holds up his hands as if to give pause to his own ramblings, until the cart turns and shakes around the pair.
"I see I'm losing you. I—perhaps I should start much more recently." He clears his throat.
"Imagine a world just begging to be saved. You may pray to the Lady of Luck for good fortune, you may strive on pilgrimage. You may even yearn to be regarded by the stars, as the Stonerunners do. But I am on a mission of unity. Of oneness with all creatures, near and far. To find the secret that creates a truth. A oneness with all creatures. This came to me, of course, it was delivered. Providence, some might say . . . and I say that as well."
He pats her hands after he concludes his serenading.
"So, take heart, good waif. For I have come to the Reach to save it."
Character Name: Dante
Character Race: Valkyian Human
Character Age: 20
Brief Physical Description: A gaunt man with dark, sun-kissed features and espresso colored hair. His eyes radiate with a deep bluish-grey hue and his stature is well worked and somewhat harmed, as though he has been wandering around hunched for years. His clothes were once fine but are now disheveled and covered with the muck of his wanderings. His easy smile is overshadowed by eyes layered with grief and unbearable weight, as though he has seen more than most.
