༻✦ Appearance ──────────────────────

A man with eternally tangled hair a shade similar to a raven's feathers— whilst not necessarily unkept, most would consider him rather dishevealed looking. Eyebags are seemingly always present under his dark teal eyes, a grumpy expression at rest. Dressed in various shades of blue, he wears a pair of 4 point star earrings, a large mage hat atop his head. A heavy cloak pinned by another star and lighter blue robes, with a black belt carrying potions and the such, fingerless gloves and boots.

Akalis is usually seen in his usual set of robes, preferring to dress masculine and jarringly simple despite his home region and upbringing. He cares not for flashiness, favouring practicality over fanciness or patterns. Accessories beyond his earrings and hat are rare, and at most will adorn not more than a single ring.

-  Academically inclined, Akalis always seems to have some amount of book knowledge of the world— accurate or not. He strives to write and archive information as well as possible

- Whilst he doesn't necessarily hate other mages, he holds a deeply rooted envy towards those who have the arcane in their blood and tends to view them in spite.

- Knows an amount of seafaring, having been raised in the Isles. Wouldn't command a ship but knows his way around the waves

────────────────────── Backstory ✦༺

Born to a long line of family mages within the Mist Isles, Akalis is the rare exception to carrying the arcane in his blood. Though he was not necessarily outwardly shunned, he couldn't help but feel out of place by the way everyone treated him— and not just in the way of lacking an innate spark in magic. He was seen as disruptive and other such negative connotations. He took interest in the few academic records he could get his hands on, taking a bigger interest in the historical accuracy than the tales like his peers. An accurate retelling just made more sense than diverting so far from the base story.

Growing up, Akalis always felt like he was behind on everything. Other children knew things he didn't— his family discussed their branches of the arcane yet he never could quite grasp the apparent vibes behind it as everyone else. Praise seemed to come rarely, as his attempts to be as good as everyone else would fumble repeatedly earning nothing but scoldings. He didn't understand why people seemed to avoid him so much, or really why people seemed to never just be clear about what they're trying to say. Everyone else had such an easy time interacting, yet all he would earn are scowls and jeers. He's asked many times to try and fit the pieces together to no avail. And so he learned to keep his distance, to simply go back to not caring what everyone else seems to naturally abide by.

Akalis was always fascinated by the ocean, both due to his birth home and the many, many tales of Siren Serene. Though he does not care much for song or grand stories— he does at least respect the notion of bards. He finds the notions of spirituality… odd. To work on the mere belief of something without correlation was weird, and he makes his opinion quite known. Unless there was actual, proper confirmation to a superstition; he did not understand it. Ironic given his respect for Siren Serene.

Eventually, when old enough, he took to building a boat and left the isles to travel the rest of the world. Chasing after the ambition to never return until he was as powerful as a mage he could be, no matter what the sacrifices entailed. He had to prove to himself he could do this. That he could amount to something with all his faults.

He had to.

 ༻✦ Personality ──────────────────────

Many would describe him as prickly, a jerk, aggressive; arrogant even. And the people would not necessarily be wrong. Akalis is confident. Blunt, perhaps to a point of cruelty. He speaks his mind and seems to care not for other's feelings on the matter. His patience has low limits and he will make it known if he perceives someone as wasting his time. He is, however— extremely hard working to a fault. Determination easily rolls over into stubbornness and spite. Pushing through for answers, or to make something just work somehow if he's not stopped.

He pushes connections away, especially the people he perceives as better than him. Speaking highly yet occasionally cruely of them. A harmful cover up for his own feelings of personal worthlessness, a rooted perception of how everyone will always be better and that his efforts will go unseen until he's strong enough. Until he's good enough.

Perfectionism constantly seems to haunt him, never stopping at just good enough if he can help it. At times this extends to other people, pushing his already high expectations onto his peers. He envies those heavily who can remain kind— something he has failed to achieve to change of himself. But not all is bad, sometimes. Despite his many flaws.

In reality; Akalis can't understand others' feelings and by extension his own. He experiences the negatives strongly, the positives almost fully muffled. And as a result, expresses the only few he understands. He acts as logical as can be to make up for this,and approaches emotions the same way. He grew apathetic after his attempts to understand others were only met with scowls, and acts in a way that benefits himself more. He's not heartless; he can care. Just doesn't really see the point unless someone gives him a reason to.

- An enjoyer of mostly savory and warm, filling meals

- Heavily avoidant to touch, and will instinctively slap people away if able to

- His family is known to house Tellurgic mages (though not all are Stormcallers) but has a few Ether mages in the mix as a secondary majority

- His last name (to his knowledge) mostly comes from the fact someone before him was very good at navigating the ocean using the stars… probably. It could also just be because whoever he inherited it from was a good Ether mage
