Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (150 words minimum - please make sure to include some references to our lore in your response!)
Eryndor pays her a look and smiles softly at the older woman, his eyes then drifting to the picturesque view of the Southern Reach. His mind almost seems elsewhere. However, at the woman's question, he offers a quiet smile.
"Nervous? Maybe a little. My life at home has taught me that fear shapes a person and their spirit. We're also raised to believe that no matter which path we take, it makes us worthy of what's beyond in it's own way. That's why our life and its path matter, why we must leave a mark, why we must seek to find our meaning and to leave an impact. The Korami believe that this is what molds your soul for what comes after. I'm not afraid of death or anything else, not nearly as much as I'm afraid of not leaving a mark behind."
He moves his hand to the hilt of his family blade which he carries on his side.
"This blade has been passed down through my lineage. It serves as a reminder of my bloodline’s fight through time. It has seen things and battles I've only heard stories of. However, I'm not really like the warriors before me. I lived quietly compared to my ancestors, with internal struggles, wondering if I've done enough and what to do more. I fear that if I remain as I was, I'll leave barely any mark, my soul will become weak, and it would fade.
He pauses while still scanning the terrain of the Reach, until he continues speaking.
"That's why I'm here. I came to this land in order to find my purpose and leave a mark. But also… His voice lowers the Aedall... While there was no love lost between my people and them, at the end of the day, they were still Arsa Sidhe just like my people. Even though our cultures got divided and we didn't continue the same way after the collapse, there's a part of me that cannot ignore their disappearance. They clung to the past and refused to let go, unlike the Korami. But no matter our differences, I cannot simply ignore their sudden vanishing. Even if I don't agree with them.
He leans forward slightly, his purple eyes meeting hers, and speaking in a more serious tone.
And I feel that whatever happened to them could potentially shape the future of everyone.
He leans back and speaks with the same tone as before, now facing the woman.
"But regardless, it's not all about them. It’s about me too. Helping solve their mystery would mean leaving a mark on this world, a deed that could shape my soul. Maybe the whole ordeal around their story holds more than meets the eye. Maybe it holds my own path, how people will remember me, a way to truly strengthen my soul. Most of the Korami don't see the Aedall's fate as important, but I disagree. After all, they're the same kind as us, the Arsa Sidhe. And in the case that my path doesn’t end up being solving their mystery, I hope that here at the Reach, I can find a way to truly leave a mark.
He turns his eyes back to the view of the Southern Reach, speaking slightly quieter, but with determination and resolve.
"To stay still and take no action is to fade. I won't let that happen to me."
He lets those words linger.
