Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (150 words minimum - please make sure to include some references to our lore in your response!)
For a single moment, the shadow of hesitation hung behind Hiakerie’s eyes. Their hand held tight the withered familial blade which rested in its hilt.
“I am from the west. Korami. I… have not learned your tongue that well.”
Their face betrayed their false words. The elder woman smiled still, even as Hiakerie’s gaze danced around them her eyes beaming with a comforting glow.
“It’s alright dearie. It's a long journey, it must have been hard. It’s not far now.”
They nodded. Then there was silence.
“I wanted to be at peace. My homeland knows nothing but blood and steel. The ashen place leaves little kindness for those who walk in it. The isles of mist are no home… The siren’s air hangs heavy. I can barely stand it…”
The quiet hung heavy.
“This land is a land of what was lost. Hidden beneath a veil no eye can pierce. Memories, lost to the ravages of time.”
They unfurled a leather sketchbook from a satchel— rugged cliffs, simmering hot springs, and long nights upon distant seas all rendered on page.
“… A lost soul should… keep the light aflame. I know not who else will…”
Their words were wrinkled, their sorrows hollow. But that mattered little to the kind soul and spirit. Her arms wrapped tightly around Hiakerie, who after a moment, relented.
“It’ll be alright, love.” She said, flowing off her tongue like a soothing honey. They lingered there for a moment. One where it felt like there was nobody but them, strangers who’d soon go, with but a memory to keep.
“And… to keep a light aflame. To remember what is lost, will be lost, so it is not forgotten. By quill and brush, I want to make sure all can live on.”
They would not forget it. In a few days time, a blank page found itself adorned with a kindly smile.

The right side of their face was covered by a mask of worn brass and tin. Their clothes were simple, loose robes, a cloth drape, and beads. A scabbard with a worn sword rested on their hip— accompanied by bundles and satchels.
