MILITIA OF THE SPIRE
As penned by M. Noctis
The Spire Militia exists to safeguard the town and its surroundings from external threats, including banditry, hostile forces, and beast or monster attacks. The militia operates distinctly from the town guard, focusing solely on defense and protection, with no authority to enforce the law or carry out arrests.
SECTION 1 - RANKS
Militia Captains: Oversees the militia’s operations, including training, resource management, and deployment. Appointed by the town council through majority vote.
Sergeants: Experienced members responsible for leading squads during operations and assisting in training.
Militia Members: Volunteer or conscripted individuals trained for specific roles, such as scouts, defenders, or marksmen.
SECTION 2 - CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Road and Perimeter Patrols: Maintain a presence on roads and outer areas to deter banditry and identify threats before they reach the town.
Beast and Monster Defense: Respond to sightings or attacks by dangerous creatures in the region.
Support During Sieges: Assist the guard in defending the town’s walls during large-scale threats.

SECTION 3 - DISTINCTIONS FROM THE SPIRE’S GUARD

- The militia operates exclusively outside the town or in direct response to external threats.
- They are prohibited from enforcing laws, making arrests, or intervening in domestic disputes. The militia is capable of only intervening if it to stop immediate harm to civilians, and to call for the guards to arrive on scene.
- Any other parties that are conducting themselves mindfully are to not be disrupted by the militia, as they reserve the right to bounties and livelihood still. Though, a militia member may offer their help or give it if requested.
Accountability:
- Actions are subject to review by the Militia Captains.
- Any breaches of jurisdiction or misconduct result in disciplinary action or dismissal.
SECTION 4 - RECRUITMENT & MEMBERSHIP
Eligibility:
- Open to townsfolk and approved outsiders with basic physical fitness and a willingness to serve.
- Background checks to ensure reliability and alignment with the militia’s mission.
Volunteer Basis:
- Members are unpaid volunteers but are able to be provided with the rations, equipment, and occasional stipends if serving for a mission organized by the Militia.
Passive Service:
- In passive service, militia members serve only when needed, allowing them to keep their jobs and live their daily lives unhindered.
