Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”

“My first time…?” A singular black eye would peak out from beneath the amalgamation of blankets and quilts which had accumulated in the wagon’s corner as if a wasp’s nest. “I am not nervous.” The audacity of some people, the tone in the voice was haughty and fit like a gem did inside of a crown. The edges had never seen a day of dullness from and from how pointed the next words were, they might have even been sharpened. “Nor do I have -any- reason to tell you why I’ve-.”
Is that any way to act to a stranger!? Well, not really, but with a tired huff amid the darkness of where they yet lingered a sigh escaped them. “…” The old coot was just trying to be nice. Most people, fools that they were, did have that inclination to them.
“…I deal in seeking curiosities and putting them to the sword. I’m going to get to the top of that tower, the ‘’Spire’’, I believe it’s called.” How awfully original, but that was beside the point and a gripe to take up with its makers. “Fables always have their roots within truth, and thus, here I am... Snipping the threads of worthless fantasies.” It sounded far more grounded than prattling on and on about changing fate and breaking curses many of their ilk saw as boons. A hunter of fiction, suppose it suited them well enough. “That and I read some abysmal paper about a wishing well there. Figured I’d visit with the extra crowns to my name.”
Seeing as their end of the conversation had been fulfilled, at least to a somewhat acceptable degree, they pulled their blankets and quilts closer. And waited.
And waited.
And waited.
