Devoted

- Lady Noctis: His reason for being. Raime takes great pride in his devotion to the Lady Steward, and will permit no pretenders in her place. Her compassion and kindness gave him a place, and he does his best to adhere to it. She is closer than family, closer than love, yet there are things she must never know of him for her own protection.

- Lady Dumont: Indulgence. When Lady Noctis took power, Lady Dumont was a guide throughout his struggles with a place in such a society. She is many things to many people, but to him she is just one. An appeal to his impulses and curiosities, to his whims and darkest self. His devotion to Lady Dumont is an extension of his drive for power.

Disliked

- Yarrow: She talks too much and says too little. Raime does not trust her discretion, sooner judging it as a lack thereof. He would rather her eagerness feed into others than give away something he would trust her with.

Hated

- Sir Ingram Lombard: Left him.

Missed

- His younger self: Melancholia draws the Constable to wonder where he needed to change so he could have been the heroic knight he had dreamed of.

- Backstory -

Sir Robert Escher is a creature of vice. A stout warrior and sharp wit, but vulgar and cruel as he speaks. His moniker of Blackguard is given for his attitude as a scoundrel, and general unpleasance. Baseborn, the hunter’s boy was among the party of the local lord Winnifred on a hunt gone awry; he was knighted for saving the lord’s son from a boar with a well-aimed spear. The boar was taken as his sigil, and credited as though an accomplice—if it weren’t for the beast, Robert wouldn’t have had his moment to slay it. He quickly took to wife Lord Winnifred’s daughter Elaine and was a father himself within the year, spending his knighthood hunting and fighting and jousting. He bore 5 children through his wife Elaine: Rosalind, Roderick, Prosper, Raime and Ambrose—though any amount of bastards may run around alongside. Roderick, his firstborn son, was kept closeby. The rest were carted off as wards without so much as a second thought. Rosalind would depart to join a convent, while Prosper would go on to become a field nurse. Raime and Ambrose were each sent to squire under Sir Robert’s friends Sir Ingram Lombard and Sir Col Hanequin respectively, both knights setting off with their squires into the Southern Reaches.

Sir Ingram stood apart from Sir Robert as apologetic, kind, and well-meaning; a nature imparted upon Raime as of paramount importance. The two would often hunt together, and they would visit Prosper, who was in the area often. Raime’s sister would help treat their wounds, and he would attentively watch her do so. As a squire, life entailed very little beyond fighting, hunting and resting—Sir Ing would treat with bandits before deciding if they were truly brigands, and strove to arrest before killing. Any deaths were given proper burial and mourned with their surviving comrades. Raime did not have a weapon of his own, but Sir Ing would let him wield his boar sword, even when they were not hunting. The squire was proficient with it when fighting boars, and used it to practice his swordplay on his own.

Then a day came where Raime woke alone. Sir Ing rode off without a notice to explain. The squire waited for the man’s return, but relented after a week without any sign, trailing after the man like a lost dog.
