Mera's Backstory (part 1): Mera was born on a farm to a human father and elven mother. Her mother was severely ill when she was pregnant with Mera, so her father went out searching for a cure. After consulting every doctor in town, Dad hiked into the wilderness following a rumor of a fey that could heal any illness... for a price. He begged the fey to heal his wife, offering all the crowns he had in his coin purse. But the fey had no need for riches, almost no fey does. What they fey demanded was simply that the family build a shrine on the farm and offer a portion of the harvest every year.
Later that night when Dad hiked back to the humble farmhouse, he found the window to the bedroom wide open. Fearing a robber had broken into their home, he grabbed the nearest large stick and snuck into the house. Creeping into the house, he hears a faint lullaby and the sound of a bird chirping. He cautiously turns the corner to see his wife in perfect health, singing to their newborn daughter. A blue jay was sitting on the windowsill, chirping along. Although Mera had now been brought into the world, and her mother was healthy, she wasn’t without the fey’s touch. Her eyes were bird-like, and downy feathers covered the baby’s arms, legs, and back.
