The Restrained
Facet, or “the Facet” is a paragon parted from himself; no matter where he is viewed from, a second self glints off of his personage like a gemstone. What led to this disposition is disputed, whether multiple heroes were cursed to share one vessel or one hero was cast apart into myriad aspects—or perhaps something else entirely. What is known in certainty, however, is that potent magic bounds within his form in a constant bid to escape. One he will not permit.
Arms and armour wrought of deep earth mark his person, glinting off the second self that walks with him. He is never solely as-one; conclusions drawn with alacrity are in dispute of means to reach them—for that reason he cannot lead with certainty, but he can place his faith in others instead. He no longer joins battles of mortal ken, and grows mournful when his patronage is misplaced—or when his benefactors take arms against each other. He does not blame the hearts of others for faltering, but takes upon his shoulders that his trust was misplaced. Yet still, he believes in the better virtue of others.
Values
Facet believes in set tenets, but does not believe adherence to them is without nuance. If he believes someone has faltered under his tutelage, he will speak with them sooner than spurn.
- Spurn not thy history, learn from past thine and other.
- Take not glory, strive instead to be an icon to thy peers.
- Follow not unrighteous law.
- Deny not thy mistakes, correct them when able.
- Commit not hypocrisy, but do not be naive to others’ contradictions.
- Abide not thy darker self, but acknowledge thy temptations.
- Condone not the flaws of others, but accept them in wholeness.
- Suffer not self-proclaimed greatness, be wary of those who do.
Views on Other Patrons
Facet does not condone chaos or lust for power, but still earnestly believes there is a better self behind every sin. While he is wont to give second chances to any faced with a choice to be better, it has led Facet into circumstances of being outwitted by patron and mage alike. It is not outright naïveté, but foolhardy hope.
Being a Mage under Facet
Facet favours restraint above all others. Might is meant to be matched with forbearance and temperance, and should only be used as needed—never in excess. Any that abide his tenets, defend the meek, or display some selfless act may be visited if word of their virtue travels and are grounds for forming a pact. Any other defining factors are decided upon meeting.
