The following is a notice from Councilor Drenmir Fesyla

Honored frontiers-people, watchful allies and adversaries alike, I greet you. It is with both pride and humility that I speak to you now through the mode of parchment and ink to announce my departure from the Council of Four.

When I first took office, the threats of knights, Ravens, and the Aedallian Garden were still fresh upon our minds. Since then, we have found ourselves in only further dangers, from both foreign clans and naval-born privateers alike. Yet now, I realize that the Council is not the avenue of which I desire to serve.

I cannot serve you, people of the Spire, in the way I know how. Not through law-making and book-keeping, not through balancing the restraint and dignity one must hold with this title; even full knowing that what you would do is right. The winds shift, Spire-folk, as they often do upon the frontier. Some desire a rule through might alone. In my arrogance, I partook in such a thing upon my recent postings. I know it now, through the counsel of my peers, that this path is not what our home needs. I am humbled and enlightened on the true machinations that my brash and bold decisions have only strengthened.

Some of my former colleagues now speak of justice through private institutions; institutions that they just so happen to lead. Power is a curious thing. It gathers quickly, settles deeply, and sometimes those with it- and those beneath those with it- forget what they were meant to guard. To them, I offer this: Find solace not in your work, nor in the strength your numbers impose on those you as a collective may deem lesser. Find solace in those numbers for the bonds you've forged with them. A day may come when such bonds are tested- or severed entirely. I speak from experience.

To those who keep the hearths warm, to our Militia and hospital staff, to the citizens who know the names of their neighbors and still recall the reasons the Spire-town was founded, I trust you will know when to speak, and when to wait. I trust that you will continue to keep our home safe and on a path for a future brighter than even I could imagine.

I leave this office not in protest, but in peace. Let the city rise as it will. May it never forget the ground beneath its feet.

Thank you to my supporters. Without you, I would not be here today. You have made my life far more joyous than I could have ever imagined.

May your Flames never sputter,

Drenmir Fesyla

A small note, size of visiting card, was pinned to the notice. Written in elegant script:

Spoiler

Honoured Drenmir Fesyla, you glorious idiot! Folding function amidst crisis? What do you think will happen now? You should have your wife read you some history books.

Your ever respectful, but currently mildly annoyed Brieze Martolod, secretary of the Atelier.

May your waters be serene.

Later, much calmer and visibly embarrassed secretary removed the card. However not before it was hanging there for couple of hours.
