The Southern Institute of the Arcane
-Our Purpose-
What we are; We are the Southern Institute of the Arcane, who seek to expand the ever growing pool of knowledge and public awareness of magic and its properties. Here at S.I.A, you’ll find classes of all branches of magic and professors willing to discuss the properties of each branch, as well as places to experiment and grow with the magic you may learn.
Our Goal; No one could ever hope to know all about magic alone. It takes diligent effort on many accounts to ensure the safety of those who use it, and the people near it when it is cast. Our goal is to provide tools to the public at large as well as students to create a safe, hospitable environment to learn.
-Structure-
School Board (3 Heads):
The School Board, or Heads of Staff, are responsible for overseeing any official matters of the Institute involving governmental affairs or public relations. They are in charge of enforcing rules along with doling out the punishments attached. However, not much oversight will be required as we believe in the freedom of how people choose to learn.
Professors:
The Professors will be the ones to give lessons to both Students and Aspirants. If an Aspirant has chosen to be sparked, a Professor matching the Aspirants desire will be given to spark said Aspirant. Lesson plans are fully up to the Professor and Students/Aspirants, and may be anything that does not break the rules. Professors are allowed to borrow other Branch classrooms if need be for lessons.
Teachers:
Teachers are general education staff and contractors who teach more beyond that of the arcane. Topics can vary from language to combat, allowing the school to be fully utilized by all who pursue a higher education. Teachers are still staff, and while they aren't able to spark, should still be seen as a form of authority. They may use any classroom as they please if they ask the Professor in charge ahead of time.
Students:
Students are mages who have been recently sparked/seek to learn more. Anyone who has magic, no matter the skill level, may be a Student and choose to enroll in classes. If you do not have magic, you may still be a Student and enroll in classes to better understand magic as a whole. There is no requirement to be a Student past following the rules.
Aspirants:
People seeking to be sparked by a professor would start as an Aspirant. Aspirants are given the choice of both Patron and Branch of magic to choose from, and are encouraged to think thoughtfully on what they choose as it is a rather permanent choice in most cases.
-Rules-
1: Adhere to all Spire Laws.
2: No casting destructive magic inside the building.
3: No shaming/bullying other Students/Aspirants.
4: Do as the staff instructs if told.
5: Report unruly behavior to either a Professor or Head of Staff.
6: Magical spars are limited to the Outdoor Magical sparring grounds.
7: In the case of an emergency, exit the building and wait for a Professor or Board Member for instructions or an all clear.
8: The Archives are a library, return your books and any borrowed items.
9: The Vault is off limits without permission of a Board Member.
10: Keep up personal hygiene, for the sake of everyone else.
-Amenities-
Here at S.I.A, our building includes several amenities beyond the classroom. We have a common area for students to mingle and study, as well as a kitchen which is free to use for anyone. We also have dorm rooms for anyone seeking to live here at the Institute, which come included with bedding, desks, school uniforms, and storage. Included along with this is The Squirrels Den Cafe, which offers Students a job and food at the same time! It will include drinks such as tea and coffee, along with pastries and sandwiches. And at the bottom level of the basement areas is the bathhouse, for anyone to use to clean up after a workout or sweat inducing class. All throughout the building are places of study, relaxation and offices for Professors to work and meet students in. Finally, outside is our Magical Sparring area, right next to the tree of our mascot, Sally the Southern Reach Squirrel! We hope this all gives you an idea of what we may provide beyond schooling.
